Common Noise: In their fifth year, new-music organisation chronology arts joins one of Sydneys biggest cultural events to present a special concert of live music by young gay composers for chamber ensemble with Flute (Jane Duncan), Clarinet (Emma Hunt), Saxophone (Andrew Smith), Viola (Luke Spicer), Cello (Eleanor Betts), Piano (Jacob Abela), Electronics and Voice (bass-baritone Morgan Pearse). Presenting the premiere of six new musical works exploring artistic minds of some of Australias most talented emerging composers, this concert presents abstract but personal self-reflection on sexuality and music.
This event also features a special premiere of a new adaption of the defiant song cycle, Book of Cock, written especially for this event by award-winning Australian composer Colin Bright. No stranger to musical works exploring personal and political issues, Brights work is an insightful exploration of gay culture. Other composers include Nicholas Ng, Maxim Bendall (UK), Andrew Batt-Rawden, Marcus Whale and Lachlan Hughes.
